If you are thinking of conservation framing a vintage newspaper in San Francisco this is the right post for you!

At our frame shop here in San Francisco, we recently framed this vintage newspaper from 1918, announcing the Peace agreement and ending WW1.

Old paper like this one, naturally ages quite a bit over the years and shows some tears but mostly the yellowing of the paper took its effect.

You can’t reverse the discoloring of paper with conservation or museum quality framing techniques, but you can protect your art or in this case the front page of the paper from more UV damage or even tears in the paper.

For this piece we mounted the paper with acid free and reversible materials and techniques. Our client wanted to see the whole page with edges for the “real” newspaper effect, so we lifted it up a bit to create some depth.

We used museum quality acrylic to make sure in case the frame ever falls, no glass would damage the framed art and we made sure any UV light gets filtered out by the glazing.

For the frame design of this project the simple modern black satin frame add just a necessary element of style . What an amazing piece this will make on our client’s wall!
