Why we like to use mats for your art
Look at this amazing photograph of a pack of wild African dogs, also known as painted wolves!
We could have chosen a frame design that is even more simplistic and not used a mat. So why did we use it? For visual reasons we really liked how the mat helps to draw you into the photo and how it gives it room and space and separates it from the thin hardwood frame.
Mats are used in conservation picture framing for more than just viewing pleasure. A mat lifts the glass from the art so it doesn’t touch it and allows air to circulate. While the art gets hinged behind the mat we use it also as a method of flattening the art and keeping it in place all without having to permanently dry-mount the your art. Mats come in a variety of colors and thickness, so you have options to design a beautiful framing project and protect your art at the same time!
