Custom Framing in San Francisco: Where Texture Meets Design

At Underglass, custom framing in San Francisco isn’t just about preservation — it’s about creating quiet moments of design and beauty in everyday life. This whimsical print by Portuguese illustrator Joana Rosa Bragança, titled Homy Things, reminded us how framing can make you pause and rest for a while. Its earthy, muted tones called for something equally grounded and that’s exactly what we built around it.

We selected a rose-champagne colored frame with a soft, brushed texture that adds just enough warmth without overwhelming the art. To complement it, we paired a linen mat with a fine weave and subtle sheen, a perfect balance between texture and restraint. The clean white bevel around the mat lifts the art gently, helping it breathe within the space while ensuring it doesn’t touch the museum glass.

As with all our projects, we used conservation-grade materials for long-term protection and museum-quality clarity because beautiful framing should stand the test of time, both in design and durability.

Whether it’s a bold statement piece or a quiet moment like this one, we believe custom framing transforms how art lives in your home. After 40 years of framing in San Francisco, we’ve learned that the best frames don’t shout, they simply hold space for what matters.
