Custom Framing in San Francisco by Artists Who Frame

Did you know that at Underglass Custom Framing in San Francisco, some of our framers are also working artists?

This small skull painting on wood was created - and framed - by our own Anthony Saine. Having the artist at the design table changes the conversation. Every decision, from scale to profile to finish, is made with an understanding that runs deeper than surface aesthetics.

For this piece, the Bay Area artist selected a heavy carved gold frame with a rich finish that mirrors the flowery ornamentation in the painting and enhances the dimensional detail of the skull. The result is bold and cohesive, a little gothic, a little chic  and completely intentional.

At Underglass, we’ve been providing museum-quality custom framing in San Francisco for over 40 years. Our team works with collectors, designers, photographers, and local artists who care about both presentation and preservation. We use conservation-grade materials and thoughtful design principles to ensure each piece feels right in its frame and right in its space.

Being part of San Francisco’s art community means more than just framing artwork. It means understanding it from the inside out.
