40 Years of Custom Framing in San Francisco
This Tadahiro Gunji collage - a cat on an amplifier, crafted on a book cover - is exactly the kind of personal work we’ve been framing in San Francisco for over 40 years.
Because the piece was created on a hard book cover, we floated it and recessed it into a hand-wrapped fabric mat. That subtle sink creates depth and gives the artwork space to stand on its own. The brushed silver frame with dark sides adds structure without distracting from the simplicity of the collage.
We finished the piece with museum glass featuring 99% UV filtering and glare reduction. For mixed-media and collage work, especially pieces with dimensional surfaces, conservation materials matter. Proper glazing protects against fading while keeping the viewing experience clear and comfortable.
At Underglass, custom framing in San Francisco means combining thoughtful design with museum-quality materials. After four decades in the SF art community, we still approach every project with the same care - whether it’s a major collection piece or a small personal collage.
