Elevating Canvas Art with a Custom Floater Frame

At Underglass Custom Picture Framing, your trusted frame shop in San Francisco for 40 years, we love finding the perfect frame that feels like an extension of the artwork itself.

Recently, we had the pleasure of framing Decent Dress by Hungarian artist János Huszti. This striking oil on canvas portrait carries a soft, moody presence — mostly grayscale with sepia warmth — and we knew it deserved a frame that was subtle yet elevated.

We chose an ultra-thin, hand-welded metal floater frame — ideal for canvas framing. Its smooth brushed finish blends copper and sepia tones that echo the painting’s palette. To add a touch of intrigue, the frame’s sides are finished in a golden yellow, bringing a quiet surprise without overpowering the art. The brushed surface of the frame mirrors the texture of the canvas itself, creating a harmonious connection between art and frame.

As with all our work, this piece was framed to museum quality standards — using only archival, acid-free materials and reversible methods — to protect and preserve the artwork for decades to come.

Whether you’re framing a contemporary canvas, a travel memento, or a family treasure, we’ll help you find a frame that complements the story your art tells.
