Canvas Stretching & Floater Frames: Bringing Depth and Calm to Your Walls

At Underglass Custom Picture Framing in San Francisco, we don’t just frame art—we enhance it. One of the most impactful ways to elevate a canvas is with professional canvas stretching and a floater frame.

Recently, we had the pleasure of framing a layered painting featuring a luminous gold Om symbol over deep shades of blue. We began by stretching the canvas so the full image is visible, allowing the canvas sides and edges to play a role in the finished design. To complete the look, we chose a rubbed gold floater frame—slightly muted so it harmonizes rather than competes with the artwork’s bold tones.

The subtle gap between the canvas and the floater frame creates the illusion that the art is “hovering” within its frame, adding both depth and airiness. It’s a perfect example of how museum-quality framing can balance simplicity, sophistication, and personal meaning.

Whether it’s a bold abstract, a meditative symbol, or a beloved travel canvas, our team at Underglass can stretch, mount, and frame your piece so it fits seamlessly into your space.
